Expanding Cancer Care: St. Francis Hospital, Nsambya Cancer Ward

Our commitment to fighting cancer in Uganda is best demonstrated through tangible, life-saving infrastructure. Through the collective efforts of the Canada–Uganda Cancer Run and Rotary Uganda, we have made significant strides in expanding clinical capacity, ensuring patients receive high-quality treatment close to home.

A Milestone in Infrastructure: The Nsambya Cancer Ward

The development of the specialized Cancer Ward at St. Francis Hospital, Nsambya represents a major leap forward in national oncology management. Prior to this initiative, many patients faced overwhelming hurdles in accessing dedicated oncology spaces. Today, this facility stands as a beacon of hope, offering:

  • Expanded Patient Capacity: Dedicated ward space designed to provide comfortable, specialized care during critical treatment phases.

  • Integrated Support: Combining ward stays, counseling, and specialized nursing care to minimize the physical and emotional strain on patients and their families.

The Final Phase: The Radiotherapy Center

To truly address Uganda’s radiotherapy gap, the initiative has focused on equipping our facilities with world-class, high-precision treatment technology. We are actively supporting the final phase of the Radiotherapy Center, which features:

  • Halcyon Linear Accelerator (LINAC): A state-of-the-art system designed to deliver highly targeted cancer treatments quickly and precisely, minimizing side effects and improving patient outcomes.

  • TrueBeam Linear Accelerator (LINAC): Advanced radiotherapy technology that allows clinicians to target difficult-to-reach tumors with extreme accuracy, preserving surrounding healthy tissue.

Delivering Sustainable Impact

By investing directly in advanced medical equipment like the Halcyon and TrueBeam systems, we are helping transition Uganda’s oncology infrastructure into a modern, self-sustaining model. Every contribution directly funds these critical physical developments, turning hope into measurable, life-saving recovery.
